Wein trinken in Englisch

In unseren Englisch-Übungen wurde uns die Aufgabe gestellt, eine Weinprobe auf Englisch vorzubereiten. Seit einigen Wochen dürfen wir also jede Englischstunde ein bis drei Weine von unseren Kommilitonen probieren.Gestern war ich an der Reihe und habe unseren trockenen Riesling von 2006 vorgestellt.   „My name is Theresa Arns. I am going to lead the first winetasting today. I come from Reil, which is a small town on the Middle Mosel. You’ll find it  close  to Bernkastel-Kues, Traben- Trarbach, Zell and Cochem and about 60 km away from Trier. I gave you a map on the handout. Has anybody been to the Mosel?My father studied in Geisenheim about 30 years ago. He and my Mother took over the winery of my grandfather in 1991. Our whole family’s tradition in winemaking goes back to the year 1639. Of course I’d like to present you one of our wines today. So I’ve brought you along a dry Riesling from 2006. I chose this wine, because the Riesling is typical for our region and it is one of my favourite wines.

So let’s taste the wine

• First we hold our glass in a 45-degree angle in front of us in order to describe the colour. In my opinion we can see a clear wine with golden yellow colour.
• The next step is to aerate the wine in order to make the aromas smellable. Therefore we swirl the glass a bit and  take a sniff.
• I Think the aromas come pouring out. They are quite intensive. They remind me of apple, peach and Lemon, perhaps a bit honey.
• Do you agree or can you find something else?
• Then we can go on and finally taste the Riesling. The taste is dominated by the peach. The wine is well balanced. The acidity is not too strong, and the Riesling is not too dry, has notes of minerals.
